Kicking Clutter with Care: Organize With Kurnsie Featured in the Delaware Source

There is a version of this story I do not tell very often. But when the Delaware Source reached out, in partnership with CoHatch Delaware, to feature Organize With Kurnsie, I knew it was finally time.

Where This Really Started

Most people assume a professional organizer grew up in a spotless house, color coding closets before they could ride a bike. That is not my story.

My dad had chronic clutter tendencies. My mom was not a cleaner either. Our home was not unhygienic, but clutter simply lived there. Piles were part of the background of my childhood. I did not have the words back then to explain the anxiety that came with it. So instead, I organized what I could control.

First it was my Barbie accessories, sorted and contained. Then my sticker collection. Then it crept beyond my own things into the kitchen pantry, the furniture, and eventually multiple spaces throughout the house. What started as a coping mechanism for a little girl who could not yet say what she was feeling became the foundation for a career I did not know I was building.

The Belief That Still Guides Every Project

There is a phrase I picked up early in my career from other professional organizers, and it has never left me. Clutter is just unmade decisions.

Think about how many decisions you already make in a single day. What to wear. What to eat. What to say in that meeting. How to respond to that email. By the time you walk in your front door, your capacity for one more decision is already gone. So the piles on the counter, the closet you cannot face, the garage you avoid, none of that is a reflection of who you are. It is simply what happens when decision-making capacity runs out before the day does.

As I told the Delaware Source, this is exactly the weight I help take off my clients' shoulders. Not by judging what I find. By carrying some of those unmade decisions so my clients do not have to carry them alone.

What Organize With Kurnsie Looks Like Today

Three years after starting this business, and about fifteen years after first dreaming about it, Organize With Kurnsie now serves clients within a twenty-five-mile radius of Delaware, Ohio. The work spans pantries, garages, closets, basements, and even full-scale office systems for busy professionals and established business owners.

As a professional organizer, my role is not to hand someone a Pinterest-worthy shelf they will never maintain. It is to build simple, lasting systems designed around how a specific family actually lives, so the decisions stop piling up in the first place.

Why This Feature Means So Much

Being featured in the Delaware Source is the first time my work has been covered in a newspaper, and sharing this story publicly was not easy. Talking about my childhood, and the parts of it I do not usually put into a caption or a client conversation, felt vulnerable in a way that mirrors exactly what my clients feel when they let me into their homes.

That is the real thread running through this entire feature. My clients hand me the most vulnerable thing they have, the inside of their home, which so often feels like the inside of their life. I understand every bit of that hesitation, because I lived it first from the other side.

Kicking clutter with care is not just the title of an article. It is the promise behind every project I take on.

Katie Milburn
Hi, I’m Katie—your behind-the-scenes secret to a calmer, more functional space, and founder of Organize with Kurnsie. I help busy professionals and business owners regain control when their homes or workspaces no longer support the lives they’re building. You handle big things—teams, deals, decisions. I handle the background chaos that slows you down. From home offices to storefronts, I create done-for-you organizing systems that are practical, personal, and built to last. I’ve been organizing since I was a little girl, and finally made it my job in 2023. When not fiddling around with closets and cabinets, I am devouring books and podcasts, finding the best local coffee shops in Ohio, and playing with my pup.
